Today we are focusing on letting your unique strengths guide your career and your business growth. The Kolbe index is the tool we leverage here at The Ops Authority to help people understand what their unique strengths are.
Join us at our upcoming information session. On Oct 19th we will be sharing the specifics of what a Director of Operations is, what they do, how they perform, different ways they build their businesses and all about the certification program.
The Kolbe A Index
We heavily leverage a mission-vision-values structure at The Ops Authority. It is the foundational part of work that we need to do, and you can leverage it both professionally and personally. It is really important to us as we help women create legacy businesses that support their lifestyles.
Today we will be talking about the Kolbe A index. There is so much info that we learn from this assessment, and I believe this is the premiere assessment you need to do when you are going into business or when you are in a growth mindset.
The output that you will get from the Kolbe assessment has nothing to do with your social style or how smart you are. It’s how you will or won’t naturally take action, or “conation.” Conative ability is driven by your instincts, and comes from the “doing” part of your brain.
There are 3 distinct parts of your mind:
- Conative: your instincts/the way you take action
- Cognitive: the thinking part
- Affective: the feeling part
The Kolbe gives you direct feedback on the way you take action and the more aware you are of how you instinctively show up to perform work, the greater ability you have to take those instincts and formulate something that feels really good.
“When we do this we create ease, minimize stress and maximize the energy that you have to dedicate to work.”
Check out the Kolbe A if you haven’t yet.
Kolbe groups your results into 4 different action modes: fact finder, follow through, quick start, and implementer. With Kolbe your result will come back on a 1-10 scale. This doesn’t mean that 1 or 10 is good or bad. We are looking for the combination of numbers and results that you are going to get so we can help you to understand where those natural instincts are.
Fact Finder
This is how you gather and share information. Someone who has a low fact finder will have the gift of cutting through the complexity. Someone who is a high fact finder will like a lot of research, prefer details, agendas, and priorities. They will not be able to make quick snap decisions and judgements, and they prefer the written word.
Follow Through
Follow through is how you organize and design. A low follow through has the gift of being very flexible and will be able to adapt with ease. A high follow through is very process driven, systematized, loves schedules, likes organizing and sees things very sequentially. They love a checklist and don’t deviate much from the plan.
Quick Start
This is how you deal with risk and uncertainty. Low quick starts like to mitigate risk. They stick with what’s working and will help you stabilize and gain consistency. A high quick start has the gift of being very innovative, love to brainstorm, and are fine with newness. They are creative people who don’t mind chaos or ambiguity.
Implementor
An implementor measures how you handle space and tangibles. A low implementor is someone who has the ability to imagine how things could work together. A high implementor is someone who is physical or mechanical, like models or videos, demonstrations, or requires face to face interactions. An example would be someone who likes to build as opposed to an architect who creates the plans.
Analyzing Your Score
A lot of you may have profiles similar to mine:
Fact finder: 7
Follow through: 8
Quick start: 3
Implementor: 3
My lead instinct is follow through. I identify and work well with people who are project managers, and many of the people in my community score high in this area, as well as high in fact finding. Of course you don’t have to fit in a certain box to be a really good Director of Operations. We have many different profiles that come through, and it is our job to leverage this information from the Kolbe to help you identify prospective clients and to help coach you through the program
“There is no right or wrong Kolbe… it really comes down to knowing who you are and it helps you understand how you take action with the greatest amount of ease.”
I want you to have this info so you can maximize the energy you have and minimize the friction so you can move with greater ease.
