Today we are talking about really finding the work that feels the best to you so that you can show up as your next best self.
3 Keys to a Career You Love
When you think back over your professional career, I’m sure you have been in roles that just weren’t for you…either they didn’t serve you, or they didn’t leverage your gifts. In that situation, work isn’t fun. It certainly doesn’t give you the feeling of loving the path that you are on.
I’m speaking to you as someone who has been there. When I left my corporate career, I knew my working days were not over, but I had to do some deep work, because I had always taken the path that was laid before me. This was the first time in my life I got to own the next step. I spent a lot of time reflecting on what I wanted to do when I “grew up.”
When I sat down to figure out what I wanted, the word that encompassed me was “ease”.
If we can get ease, we can grow and develop at a faster pace, we are more supportive of ourselves which gives us the momentum to move forward. I was longing for ease in my personal relationships, family life, and business, and it was what I could not find in my previous roles.
“I knew that when I found ease it would bring fulfillment.“
I believe finding ease will get you on a path you will love.
1.Confidence
This is confidence in what you are doing. When you are in your best zone, it is so much easier to step into your leadership. This is really about your skills. When you tap into those natural gifts, your confidence will grow and you will be able to step into a leadership perspective.
“Your mindset is stronger because you have confidence in the work you are performing.”
Pay attention to those skills and gifts that are going to bring confidence to you.
2. Competence
Competence is the ability to do something successfully or efficiently. Find that overlap of your values, your skills, and your natural behaviors. For those looking to become Directors of Operations (DOOs), we are looking at competence in the five core areas of operations: strategy, project management, human resources, financials, and data.
3. Community
When you get into a place where you feel really deeply connected to the work you are doing, if you have that community of people around you who are supporting you it’s so much easier to rise to the next level.
Community is of utmost importance to us and it helps us to make decisions about how we deliver. We serve an audience that needs a community.
“When we are in a safe community…it is so much easier to partner with people to help you become your next best self”
