Today we are talking all about live events. Covid massively impacted our ability to gather, but live event circuits are popping back up.
The Benefit of In-Person Connections
When I started my business in 2015, I had no idea that there were Facebook groups centered around online business, and this whole community of virtual work.
It was the first place that I started to build community. I met a lot of peers, gained referrals and clients because of these connections, and then naturally we started meeting together face to face.
For the first five years of my business, I went to so many events large and small.
“My business grew exponentially when I was taking the initiative to meet people face to face.”
It was an investment, but it was the right way to put myself on the map. It’s how I got seen, built authority, had deep conversations that helped me understand my values and who I would serve.
Join us for Growth Getters Live in San Antonio Texas. This will be a 3 day event on April 11-13th, and addressing the number one frustration for service providers: How do I fill this business and get it to a scaling point? Get early bird tickets before February 17th, before the price increases!
Live Event Takeaways
Recently, I was asked to speak at Rachel Rodgers ROI Summit.
There were about 1000 attendees, which was my largest event yet. It was held in Puerto Rico in a beautiful venue. She had a few main speakers each day, with breakouts each day for different tracks, and I was speaking about hiring for million dollar businesses.
Since Covid, I’ve been able to get together with my small mastermind of 4 women, and that is so different than coordinating everything that goes into a live event of 1000 women.
Here are the 5 big takeaways that I walked away with after going to a live event. If you are looking at growing your business, I would encourage you to add a live event.
1. Depth of Connection
I had come in as a speaker, but I refused to be just a speaker. I wanted to soak up all of the amazingness of the event, personally. The connection was so rich, and I connected not only with peers, and a few current DOOs who attended, but new people who didn’t know who I was.
“The level of connection goes so fast and so deep.”
When you are looking in the eyes of someone, the ability you have to go deep is just different and that is a huge benefit of live events.
The volume of connections we make online sometimes makes them less memorable than experiencing someone in person.
“The power of having a connection point is really important and it has to be a part of your sales journey as a service provider.”
In person connection makes this more tangible.
2. Meeting Peers in Person
I have some strong connections and friendships that I have never connected with in person, and even the transparency in our conversation was very different when we were face to face.
Being able to see some of my DOOs who have come through the program and to meet them in person was amazing.
3. Refining Our Pitch
This messaging piece was a gem that I didn’t expect.
We are always refining our pitch.
As I was walking around, meeting others, the first question was of course, “Who are you/what do you do?” You had to have your elevator pitch ready to go!
The great thing about being at an in-person event is that you are introducing yourself over and over again, and each time, you are refining your pitch as you go.
Also, there is the ability to go deeper because others will be asking questions so that you add to it and customize it to what they do.
By the third day it was rolling off my tongue.
4. New Knowledge, New People
I’ve been in business for 8 years, so I felt I had an understanding of the online space and who was in it.
I was shocked at the keynote speakers that I hadn’t heard before. I was awakened to their missions, how they serve people, and the amount of candor and knowledge that I was able to gain from them.
“Just because I had been in the game a long time, I still had something to glean from every single person who took the stage.”
I walked away with so many nuggets, inspiration, and education. Now I am following those people on social media, and they are continuing to inspire me with their content.
5. Expansion
I left re-invigorated about the work I was doing. I am more on fire than ever before to do what I’m doing, because we constantly evolve it.
The inward expansion or “mindset-reset” that happened was amazing. Believing that I can set big goals, and big dreams, and understand that I have the ability to reach those goals within me.
After being in business for this long, I needed that spark to be lit in me again.
People are ready for live events again! Make it a point to continue to build connections.
“The power of community completely transformed my business.”
I hope that you will join us for Growth Getters Live in April!
