Happy New Year! I’m excited to kick off the first podcast episode of the year with a special guest who has been a source of inspiration to me. This year is a big year for me as my son graduates this year, and I find myself reflecting on the decisions I made eight years ago to start my business. I chose to prioritize my family and create a life I am really proud of. This year, I want you to also emphasize the importance of putting yourself first and setting the intention for a positive and prosperous year.
being in flow
In order to share more about this, I have brought on Dr. Julia Colangelo, an award-winning educator and researcher who specializes in flow and mindfulness. Dr. Julia shares her expertise on how to achieve a state of flow for optimal performance.
MEET DR. JULIA
Dr. Julia Colangelo (DSW, MSW, and LCSW) is an award-winning educator and researcher of flow and mindfulness at Columbia University and the founder of Hello Flow, a Maui-based educational and consulting company, where she helps high performers, including visionaries, global leaders, public figures, and celebrities get out of the riptide of overstimulation and cruise into their greatest flow state.
Her primary work is in clinical research where she has more than a decade of experience exploring the science and psychology of flow to uncover the best and most sustainable flow states. Today, she shares her knowledge and research as a private coach and advisor to high-profile individuals, as well as a sought-after keynote speaker and workshop facilitator for events and retreats across the globe. Dr. Julia has trained companies like LinkedIn and Convene, and been featured in places like Forbes, Glamour Magazine, The Washington Post, HuffPost, and more. She’s also the host of Flow, a podcast that sits at the intersection of spirituality and science to help listeners integrate mindfulness, self-awareness, and flow techniques so they can discover their truest essence and root back to their true selves.
FOCUS ON THOUGHT LEADERSHIP
Dr. Julia encourages aiming for 80 to 90% of our life to be in flow. She explains that there will always be around 10% that feels out of flow and that is okay. We are aiming for optimal, not perfection. She also highlights the importance of being in flow as a Director of Operations and how it contributes to group flow within a team. We chat more about the importance of adaptability, effective communication, and embracing our imperfections.
I hope this episode encourages you to tap into your own flow and appreciate your unique gifts as we start a new year. Let’s make this year a year of growth, joy, and fulfillment!
“When you’re in flow, you know that it’s requiring energy and a commitment, but you’re not trying to find your flow in every single thing.” – Dr. Julia Colangelo
