Have you used Upwork to land clients? On today’s episode, I have Meighan O’Toole on to share more about her tactics for landing clients in our current market, with the use of Upwork! We unpacked the strategies and insights Meighan uses for service providers ready to gain more clients through Upwork.
Meet Meighan
Meighan O’Toole is a dedicated and seasoned entrepreneur, specializing in helping small businesses succeed. She’s spent over 15 years in the creative, tech, and online business spaces. She’s worked for and with all types of businesses throughout her career; from artists you might know to world renowned tech companies. Meighan also was part of round 9 of the DOO Certification Program!
Pricing and positioning
Meighan shares more about her approach to marketing herself. She explains how she priced herself lower starting out on Upwork. This is not a move to undervalue her worth but a step to build her profile and credibility on Upwork. The goal for her is to establish a strong foundation and then gradually increase rates.
delivering on promises and building authenticity
Meighan explains the importance of delivering specific, focused services. Starting at a lower rate like she shared above is a strategy you can use, but it is still important to deliver on the promises that you have made. This will build authenticity and trust, which are vital in any business relationship.
engaging on upwork
Upwork has an algorithm and Meighan shares that the more you are sending your proposals, the more “best matches” it will show you. She shares that she created two profiles. One is her general overview of who she is and the other is a specialized profile that is still part of her account that is specifically for helping potential clients with Notion. She shares that you can save jobs but you should try to apply as soon as you can because the potential client will get a lot of proposals and you want yours to be one of the first. Meighan also shared that by using the “thumbs down” on jobs with low pricing helps the algorithm know what types of jobs you are looking for as well.
Diversifying income streams: workshops, templates, and products
She shares more about how offering live workshops, creating templates, and products in her area of expertise has helped her generate additional income. People may want to learn but they can’t always afford to hire her so she will take her solutions, her systems, and things that has done for clients and create templates, products, or courses that people can buy which is a great way to create another income stream.
Whether you are going to leverage Upwork or create digital products to leverage more income, I hope that this episode helps you land more clients!
