Welcome back to another episode of The Ops Authority podcast! On today’s episode, I have Mylesha Morgan Ramey on to share her inspiring journey from actress to DOO.
Meet Mylesha
Mylesha Morgan Ramey is an Operational Strategist, Growth Coach, Facilitator, and Actress based in New York. She serves as the Associate Director of Front of House Cinema Operations at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and is the Founder of Pop Operations and Kin and Courage. Her ventures are unified by a shared mission: helping people and their ideas reach their fullest potential.
As a Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer survivor, Mylesha prioritizes wellness and mindfulness in both her personal and professional life. This commitment has led her to become a trained performer, published poet, self-taught portrait photographer, and somatic growth coach.
Mylesha holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the California Institute of the Arts and is a Certified Director Of Operations, accredited by The Ops Authority. She is currently training to receive her Mind-Body Coaching certificate from The Embody Lab.
Discovering a Passion for Operations
Initially, Mylesha pursued a career in acting, juggling multiple jobs while striving to make an impact in the performance world. However, she soon realized that the hustle was not fulfilling her desire for meaningful work. This led her to participate in a program called Artist Striving to End Poverty at Juilliard, where she co-founded ALLIN, an initiative aimed at connecting artists with nonprofits to amplify their messages.
Through this experience, Mylesha discovered her passion for operations, finding energy and satisfaction in coordinating efforts and connecting people. Despite her success in the arts, she felt a strong urge to find a career that combined her creative talents with her newfound interest in operational work.
Joining The Ops Authority DOO Certification
Mylesha’s CEO recognized her potential and encouraged her to join the DOO Certification program, which she eagerly accepted, seeing it as an opportunity to gain the community and support she craved.
Filling Knowledge Gaps and Building Confidence
Throughout the DOO Certification, Mylesha experienced significant personal and professional growth. She sought to fill the gaps in her technical knowledge while also building her confidence in her ability to deliver on her vision for her team. The DOO Certification includes accountability advisors, live calls, and case studies, which provided her with the hands-on experience she needed to thrive.
Overcoming Setbacks
However, just as she was gaining momentum, Mylesha faced a major setback: she was laid off from her job. This unexpected turn of events could have been devastating, especially as she was in the midst of planning a wedding and considering a move. Mylesha leaned into the support of The Ops Authority community. The encouragement and guidance she received helped her reframe the situation as an opportunity for growth rather than a defeat.
Exploring New Possibilities
With the backing of her peers and mentors, Mylesha began to explore new possibilities. She was able to identify the lessons learned from her previous role and use them in her next steps. The community provided her with the confidence to consider starting her own business and to reflect on the types of companies and challenges she wanted to pursue in her career.
Transferable Skills from Acting
Mylesha shares her insights on the transferable skills she gained from her acting background, such as leadership, communication, and teamwork. These skills have proven invaluable in her new role as an operational strategist, allowing her to bridge the gap between creativity and structured processes.
