Some conversations feel less like an interview and more like sitting in on a chat between two old friends, and that’s exactly what this episode is. Melissa Froehlich is one of my oldest and dearest business besties, and she has spent years pouring into education on the different strengths we all carry. Today she’s introducing us to Human Design, an awareness tool that helps you understand how you’re energetically designed to operate. With open enrollment for the Strategic Mapping Model™ right around the corner, this conversation could not come at a better time. Knowing who you are is the key to using any framework with confidence, and Melissa shows us exactly how.
Meet Melissa
Melissa Froehlich is a strengths-based business strategist and Kolbe Certified™ Consultant who helps service providers stop forcing themselves into business strategies that don’t fit the way they naturally work. Through a blend of strategic business coaching, Human Design, Kolbe, and strengths-based leadership, she helps women build sustainable businesses around their natural strengths instead of someone else’s blueprint.
Known for her honest, practical approach, Melissa helps highly capable women understand why traditional business advice may not have worked for them and how to create growth, visibility, and momentum in a way that feels more sustainable, aligned, and effective.
A military spouse, homeschool mom, former educator, and multi-six-figure entrepreneur, Melissa brings both real-life adaptability and strategic insight to every conversation. Her work focuses on helping women stop overthinking, stop forcing what no longer fits, and build businesses that support the life they actually want.
Why Strengths-Based Coaching Starts with Awareness
Before diving into the types, Melissa offers an important disclaimer: never let any assessment define you or tell you what you can or cannot do. Awareness tools like Human Design, Kolbe, and strengths-based coaching exist to help you figure out what gives you energy versus what depletes it. Melissa looks at three parts of the mind, cognitive, conative, and affective, and what makes Human Design unique is that it blends all three. The goal is simple: build a business that supports the life you value, because no one listening is simply a business owner.
Human Design 101: The Five Types
There are five Human Design types: manifestors, manifesting generators, generators, projectors, and reflectors. Reflectors are the rarest at less than 1% of the population, while manifesting generators and generators make up roughly 70%. Because generator types are the majority, most of us have been conditioned to act like them, even if we’re not. Melissa shares how her own family includes a projector daughter and a manifestor husband, and how simply knowing there are different operating types has reduced conflict at home. Now imagine what that same awareness could do inside your business.
Your Strategy: How You’re Designed to Operate
Each type has a specific strategy, which is how you’re designed to operate from an energetic perspective. Generators and manifesting generators are here to respond, noticing which opportunities light them up and which repel them, instead of doing all the things just because they can. Manifestors are designed to initiate and inform; they’re the visionary leaders who make incredible things happen, but they need the other types to bring their ideas to fruition. And projectors? Their strategy is to wait to be invited. Understanding your strategy keeps you in alignment and protects your energy.
Why Projectors Shine with the Strategic Map™
Projectors hold a special place in Melissa’s heart because they’re so often overshadowed in business. Their archetype is the lighthouse: when a projector is finally seen and invited in, everyone wants to lock into them. But being seen is hard work in a world full of fast-paced responders and initiators. That’s why Melissa calls the Strategic Mapping Model™ a secret weapon for projectors; it allows them to show up to a client and be seen from day one. The truth is, every single type can excel with this framework when they make it their own.
Confidence Is the Common Denominator
I’ve now licensed over 550 women in the Strategic Mapping Model™, and the word I hear most at the end is confidence. Yes, the framework itself gives you a tested, comprehensive foundation, but the real magic comes from the liberty every consultant has to use it in the way that serves them best. I believe generating revenue is closely tied to confidence, and when you combine a solid framework with the self-knowledge Human Design provides, showing up, getting visible, and having conversations that convert becomes so much easier.
Make the Framework Your Own
Remember, the Strategic Mapping™ Consultant License is an offer in a box, not a business in a box. It works for any size of business, any business model, and any maturity level. Some consultants use it to kick off retainers, others to scope projects, and others to step into consulting. Whatever your Human Design type, do the work to understand how you’re designed to operate; Melissa promises it’s time well spent. Grab her free Human Design chart tool linked below, and if you’re ready to add this framework to your business, our open enrollment is happening now.
